Brahmana Kodur girls’ higher education
We have been teaching Balvikas to our village farmers’ children since 2011. We have been going twice a month and conducting those sessions in Sri Rama Mandir, that’s located in the farmers’ colony named Telaga Palem. We have also been motivating them to set goals in life and try their best to achieve them. It was heartwarming to see the children imbibe these values one by one. In their community, the tradition was to allow boys to go for higher education if they like, but get girls married after high school. But after being mentored by us for almost 10 years, six girls set goals and were inspired to continue their education beyond high school. They even convinced their parents to hold off their plans to get their girls married early. We were overjoyed to see this change in the children as well as in their parents. But in life there are always challenges…… We were very worried that the children and their parents may get discouraged and drop their college plans altogether! But to our pleasant surprise they held on, doing some of the classes remotely using their cell phones and also doing home study with a lot of determination. They all passed Intermediate first year with very good marks and continued in their second year. In summer of 2022, they all graduated from Intermediate in flying colors! Now they are getting ready for professional courses, degree programs etc. One girl is aspiring to be a doctor, two to be electronics & computer science engineers, one girl to be a physicist and so on! With financial help from our family members, we are able to provide them Balvikas Scholarships that cover half of their college expenses. This is making it much easier for their parents to support their children’s dreams! We are really proud of these girls and wish them every success in life. And also wish them to be role models for other little girls growing up in their community.
