Ever since we constructed the play park in Brahmana Kodur for our farmers children, they have been
using it daily to play after school, for an hour or two. This has been giving them enough exercise and
a lot of change, before they sit down to study during the rest of the evening. This opportunity has also
brought about a lot of enjoyment and excitement into their lives.
So to celebrate this, they started putting together a cultural program on every Indian Republic Day,
which coincides with the anniversary of the inauguration of the play park that we built for them with our
family's support. The program includes flag hoisting, speeches, songs, skits and dances by the kids
that reflect patriotism and other good values that they learn in our Balvikas classes throughout the year.
Each year we have also been inviting one or two special guests to address the kids and give them
an inspiring message. And the kids simply love these messages and get inspired by them!
The enthusiasm with which the children plan and prepare for this annual program is unbelievable.
They come up with most of the items by themselves. They choreograph their own dances and write their
own skits that are meaningful. And practice by themselves during the week, in between our Sunday
classes. They also decorate the park for the day and even put up a tent with bamboo sticks and plastic
sheets, so that the kids and the guests have some cool shade during the program!
In the beginning it was just kids but slowly their moms started joining in and this year in 2017, we
had many dads attend the program too. Thus this event is gradually helping the families understand the
significance of Balvikas in their childrens' lives :)
